MR ZANAL BIN SALEH

Memories of Rosyth

Before I joined Rosyth School, I taught in Tanjong Katong Malay Primary School for three months. Then, I was called for National Service in 1967 for 2 years.  When I came to Rosyth School, I was given the task to teach Malay. A few years later, I was asked to teach PE.

In Rosyth School, other than teaching Malay, Civic & Moral Education and PE, I also was given the task as  Sports Secretary and Head of Department (PE) before my retirement in 2008.

As a teacher in Rosyth for more than 45 years, I have some experiences that  still remain in my mind. I985 was a year that I can’t forget. During a PE lessons, a boy was injured when we started training for the  Inter-Class Soccer Competition. Another accident happened to a teacher, Mr Low Yew Fook, at the school camp in Punggol. As he zipping down during flying fox activity, the wooden holder broke and he flew off and hit a tree. He was immediately sent to a hospital. Thankfully he made a full recovery.

In the same year, I was given the opportunity to join a group of Singapore teachers for an educational tour to Japan for three weeks.  It was an exciting experience which I would always remember. Another happy and unexpected moment was to be awarded the Efficiency Medal during National Day. All in all, 1985 was an eventful year.
